“witty and popular” marketing manager was knocked down and killed at a notorious road junction in west London.
Jack Ryan, 29, is thought to have been jogging when he was struck by a Range Rover near the northern end of Battersea Bridge at 6pm on Wednesday.
Medics battled to save him but he died at the scene. The driver of the car stopped and is helping police with their enquiries.
Today Mr Ryan’s former rugby coach paid tribute to the Aston Villa fan, who worked as a digital marketing executive for Big Four accounting firm PwC.
Steve Crawshaw, who coached him at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield, said Mr Ryan had recently bought his first house with his girlfriend close to where he was killed.
“In the course of my teaching career I have taught many pupils…Jack was up there with the very, very best,” he told the Standard.
“Always a smile, witty, very popular with his peers and staff alike.
“His head of year, who teaches in New Zealand, is devastated too as we all are.
“When I heard about Jack I remembered a photo I took of him in 2003 knelt next to a kangaroo as we were on a school rugby tour.
“Needless to say his behaviour was impeccable and a credit to his school and country. I’m fortunate to have had him enrich my life.”

/ handout )In recent months Mr Ryan had been detailing his running routes through west London on his Twitter account, revealing in one post that he had racked up 100km pounding the capital’s streets in November.
Laura Hinton, PWC’s chief people officer, said in a statement: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic news.
“Jack was a very talented and popular colleague. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates and we are offering them our support.”
Mr Ryan was struck at the junction of Battersea Bridge and Beaufort St/Cheyne Walk, where a motorcyclist was killed following a crash in 2017.
On Friday local MPs and councillors held a meeting to discuss safety at the junction, which locals have described as “lethal for pedestrians and cyclists”.
A Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea spokesman said the council had been asking Transport for London and the Mayor to “urgently make this junction safer for some time”.
A witness described watching as paramedics tried to revive Mr Ryan in the road by carrying out CPR.
He told the Standard: “I could see the driver speaking to police explaining and showing what had happened. He was with a woman.
He added: “That crossing by Battersea Bridge is utter hell. I have complained about it for years. There is no gap in traffic lights for pedestrians.”
