The Queen has revealed a previously unseen picture of great-grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis during a virtual diplomatic audience.

The monarch, 94, was greeted with sweeping bows and a low curtsey as she held her first virtual diplomatic audience to meet foreign ambassadors in Buckingham Palace via video call from Windsor Castle on Friday.

A framed photograph of Prince William, 38, and Kate Middleton’s, 38, children can  be seen behind the royal’s left shoulder, showing George, seven, posing next to little sister Charlotte, five, and Louis, two.

The previously unseen image was revealed as it was announced the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will meet the Queen for a heart-warming family engagement at the end of a nationwide ‘Christmas Express’ tour on the royal train on Tuesday.

During the virtual receptions, which saw the Queen meeting three ambassadors virtually for the first time, a small collection of objects could be seen over the royal’s shoulder.

As well as the framed photograph of the Cambridge children, there was also a green duck sculpture, and a blue lamp with a bright white shade.

The Duke and Duchess are set to be reunited with the monarch on Tuesday, after finishing their royal tour of the country.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will also be present at Tuesday’s event, offering a show of unity from senior members of the Royal Family for people and organisations across the country who have gone ‘above and beyond’ in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is currently unknown whether the Cambridge children will see the monarch and their great grandfather Prince Philip this Christmas due to Covid-19 restrictions

The reunion comes as the royal family prepare for the festive season after the cancellation of the traditional royal Christmas.

The Queen and Prince Philip, 99, traditionally spend the festive season with close family at Sandringham, in Norfolk.

But it was announced last week that this year they will forgo the festivities and remain at Windsor Castle, where they have been isolating with a ‘bubble’ of staff since October.

It is understood the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will not take advantage of the relaxed Covid restrictions to form a Christmas bubble with other households.

A royal expert claimed last week the Queen wants her children and grandchildren to ‘enjoy Christmas with their other loved-ones’ and ‘not feel torn’ as she prepares for a ‘quiet’ festive season at Windsor.

Vanity Fair‘s Katie Nicholl reported: ‘The Queen has said that this is the year for her family to enjoy Christmases with other family members and not feel torn, as they often do, when a royal Christmas takes priority.’

The restrictions could mean the Duke and Duchess spend Christmas Day with the Middletons for the first time since 2012.
