BBC series The Mallorca Files premiered its second series recently with the new episodes all made available on the BBC iPlayer. The new series is shorter than the first outing due to the coronavirus pandemic leading to filming being cut short. However, can fans of the light-hearted crime drama see more from the show going forward?
Will there be another series of The Mallorca Files?
The BBC has yet to confirm whether The Mallorca Files will be returning for a third outing.
As mentioned, the coronavirus pandemic led the show to be truncated with only six episodes in the latest cycle.
However, there were still four more scripts ready to go, which were supposed to be part of the series.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk reflected on the future of the show, saying: “We’re in a really strong position because we’ve got lots of really good scripts in a stage development and we’ve already got some season three scripts developed as well.
“So if we got the green light from the BBC and our other international partners then we could move really quickly.
“It’s the type of show that we know how to make it and it’s all ready to go really.”

When will The Mallorca Files season 3 be released?
Season two has only just been released, so it might be sometime before there’s any news.
Saying this, the BBC did give the show a quick recommission in 2019, so hopefully fans won’t be left waiting too long.
Speaking about when work could start on a possible season three, Sefton said: “It’s about what’s practical.
“A lot of shows have been shooting very successfully during the pandemic but shows involving the travel of lots of guest stars into bubbles are more difficult.
What will happen in The Mallorca Files season 3?
Fans can expect more of the same from the show with standalone cases getting cracked by detectives Miranda Blake (played by Elen Rhys) and Max Winter (Julian Looman) on the island of Mallorca.
Each instalment explores a different location and area of the island with various cases rather than just a murder like in Death in Paradise and the story will be satisfyingly wrapped by the time the credits roll.
Sefton admitted he was “quite sad” because some of the episodes were unable to be made but promised there was some ‘great material” still in the works.
Who will be in the cast of The Mallorca Files season 3?
Rhys and Looman will be reprising their roles again as detectives Blake and Winter should the series come back.
There are also likely to be some guest stars with the show already growing in popularity and attracting some well-known names.
Season two saw guest appearances from Grantchester’s Kacey Ainsworth and Phil Daniels with more coming in the future.
Is there a trailer for The Mallorca Files season 3?
As the show hasn’t yet been confirmed and work hasn’t started on the next outing, there’s no trailer but Express.co.uk will update this article with any news as it comes.
