Meghan Markle and Harry: Tom Bradby discusses royal couple

The ITV journalist opened up about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure from the Royal Family during this Sunday’s episode of Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh. Mr Bradby said the couple, who are living in America after stepping back as senior working royals, are “content” and “quite excited” by the things they are doing, but added that Harry is “heartbroken by the situation with his family”.

However, the Daily Mail cited a royal source as expressing surprise at the broadcaster’s comments.

The source is quoted as saying: “Surely it would have been better, if this is what Harry feels, that he had said this to his family rather than a journalist.”

Asked if he thought the couple seemed any happier in the US, Mr Bradby said: “So are they unhappy? No, I think they are content, the things they are doing they are quite excited by.

“I think he is heartbroken by the situation with his family, you don’t necessarily need to have knowledge to know that, but I think it is true.”

Meghan and Harry plunged the Royal Family into a period of crisis when they revealed their intention to step back as senior royals just over a year ago.

In the months leading up to the bombshell announcement tensions between the Sussexes and the Royal Family became apparent when Meghan and Harry were interviewed by Mr Brady for an ITV documentary filmed during their Africa tour.

The Queen’s grandson and the former actress are now starting a new life free from royal constraints in California.

1.45pm update: Meghan and Harry Megxit review ‘called off’ as there’s ‘no need’ to meet Queen

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Megxit deal will not be reviewed by the Queen in March as planned, a royal insider has claimed.

Vanity Fair royal correspondent Katie Nicholl told True Royalty TV’s Royal Beat: “My understanding from the Sussexes’ camp is that there has been communication with the Queen, Prince Charles and with William as well. The general feeling is that this [current situation] is working.”

Ms Nicholl added: “This isn’t to say that people are not watching closely what these deals are, what the couple are doing and what these projects are going to be.

“But there is not this need to have this review one year on.”

Prince William is increasingly “concerned” that his brother Prince Harry is trying to “take ownership” and even “exploit” the legacy of their mother Princess Diana.

Speaking to True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat author and Vanity Fair Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl suggested that William will be concerned at how Harry is using Diana’s legacy and image for his own brand.

The Royal Beat’s host Kate Thornton questioned whether William will see the recent use of Diana’s image on the Archewell website as “exploitation”.

11.20am update: Prince George features in Kate and William’s video call with frontline workers

Kate and Prince William have carried out their latest virtual engagement – and eagle-eyed royal fans may have noticed a sweet framed picture of Prince George in the background.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chatted to emergency responders and counsellors in a video call on Wednesday.

An adorable framed photo of William and Kate’s eldest son can be seen behind the royal couple in their Norfolk home Anmer Hall.

The snap was taken by keen amateur photographer Kate and released to mark George’s sixth birthday in July 2019.

In the picture, the youngster is wearing an England football shirt and is laughing as he lies on the grass in the grounds of Kensington Palace.

10.40am update: William and Kate’s secret royal home on Balmoral Estate

Prince William and Kate have a third royal home where their relationship “blossomed”, experts have said.

Tam-Na-Ghar cottage, housed on Balmoral Estate grounds, was gifted to Williamby the Queen Mother before her death in 2002.

The Cambridges spend most of their time in Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall – but they fell in love with the cottage while they were students at St Andrew’s University.

Their third home is one of 150 buildings on the 50,000 acre estate – and is said to be a place where “many royal relationships have blossomed”, including their own.

10am update: Meghan and Harry ‘want to have cake and eat it too’ amid privacy criticism

Archewell’s privacy policy shows Meghan Markle and Prince Harry “want to have their cake and eat it too”, a brand and reputation management expert has claimed.

Meghan and Harry have been branded part of the “out of touch celebrity elite” who care about protecting their privacy but are willing to share other people’s information when it comes to their work.

Eric Schiffer, Chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, lashed out at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the wake of the publication of Archewell’s privacy policy.

9.25am update: Harry and Meghan’s ‘royal sellout’ threatens to doom William’s reign

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sabotaged the future of the Royal Family, carrying out what amounts to the “biggest sellout in the history of the family”, according to a leading royal biographer.

Harry and Meghan could doom the future of the Royal Family, according to royal biographer Duncan Larcombe.

Speaking to True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat, Mr Larcombe accused the Sussexes of carrying out “the biggest Royal sellout in the history of the family”.

He suggested that Prince William’s reign as future King will be wrecked after his brother’s “sellout deals”.

8.50am update: William ‘hoped Harry would be there for him’

Prince William hoped his younger brother Prince Harry would be by his side supporting him in his royal role, according to an expert.

Royal author Angela Levin warned the brothers, who have been the subject of an alleged rift, are unlikely to “get back to what they were” due to the way Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have blindsided the royals when they announced shock plans to step back as senior royals just over a year ago.

Ms Levin told Express.co.uk: “I think they will have a superficial relationship that is polite but I don’t think they can ever get back to what they were because of how they’ve handled leaving the Royal Family.

“I don’t think it matters so much that they left the Royal Family – although Prince William obviously hoped he would be there for him and Harry said one of his key roles was to support his brother – but I think it was the way it was done.”

8.10am update: Eugenie and Jack could take weeks to share royal baby name

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child together this year – but the royal couple could break from tradition and take weeks to share the baby’s name.

Eugenie and Jack announced their big news last September and the tot is due early this year.

Historically, some royals have taken a few weeks to share their babies names with the world.

Prince Andrew and Sarah, the Duchess of York did not reveal Princess Beatrice’s name until two weeks after she was born.

7.30pm update: Sophie Wessex to replace Meghan and Harry on 2021 royal frontline

The Countess of Wessex will “step up” this year to help fill the gap left by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s departure, according to a royal expert.

Sophie and Prince Edward “feel they have been left out a bit” in the past and are now “very keen” for a bigger role, royal author Angela Levin claimed.

She added that the Earl and Countess of Wessex have already started stepping up in the wake of Megxit.

Ms Levin also said the Queen “adores” Sophie, who she described as an “incredibly hard worker”.
