Prince Harry’s phone call to Queen shortly before her historical coronavirus speech

The Queen’s coronavirus speech from the White Drawing Room at Windsor evoked wartime spirit, as she told the nation “we will meet again”.

The Monarch is a pro when it comes to speeches, having delivered them through her reign, however this one was very different.

The pre-recorded message, which was watched by millions, was filmed with just one cameraman wearing full PPE and adhering to the strictest social distancing measures.

But she had her most trusted aides around her (although not physically) to make sure everything went to plan, and the support of her loving family.

And despite the difficulties of Megxit and the upset behind palace walls surround Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to quit, the duke was one of the first people to wish her good luck, it has been claimed.

Omid Scobie, one of the authors of a new bombshell book about the couple, Finding Freedom, says that Harry gave his nan a call ahead of the historical speech.

Speaking to OK! magazine, he said: “Harry and his father are very close at the moment, and Harry and the Queen have this unbreakable bond.

“When she made her speech during lockdown, he was the first to pick up the phone and wish her luck.”

Scobie believes that despite the upset and drama of the past 12 months, they are still very close.

He adds: “Those relationships haven’t been permanently rocked by what’s happened.

“But when it became clear that their ‘half in, half out’ working mode wasn’t going to work, it’s almost impossible to turn back from that.”

In another interview Scobie claims that Harry and the Queen also shared a frustrated phone call in the lead up to the royal wedding regarding Meghan’s tiara.

There have been many reports of a fallout with the Queen about which glitzy band the future Duchess of Sussex would wear on her big day.

But Finding Freedom claims that the Sussexes’ row was actually with her dressmaker and close friend Angela Kelly, saying that she made things difficult.

Speaking to True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat, Scobie explains that the meeting where Meghan picked her tiara was actually a huge success.

He said: “The tiara selection went wonderfully. The Queen was very happy, Meghan was very happy.

“In fact Meghan’s words when that story came out were ‘how sad, I love my tiara’.

“The drama took place afterwards, when Meghan wanted to try that tiara on with her hair stylist, because there is a lot of tech that goes into this.

“They had to do an experiment with that before the wedding day. The hairstylist came in from overseas, there was an appointment at Buckingham Palalce, but nobody was there.”

Scobie claims that Meghan kept trying to book in a day to do the trial run, but struggled to pin Angela down.

He said: “Each time Angela Kelly isn’t available to arrange this, to facility this, despite agreeing to.

“It got to the point where staff around Harry and Meghan were tearing their hair out because the wedding was a couple of weeks away, months had passed at this point.

“Harry had to intervene. He called his grandmother and said, ‘I don’t know what the hell is going on, but this woman needs to make this work for my future wife’.

“We can see kind of see now where this ‘what Meghan wants, Meghan gets’ narrative came from.”

He goes on: “Harry felt that there were those within the institution that would stop at nothing to at the very least to make Meghan’s life difficult.

“Meghan didn’t get to try the tiara on again until a few days before the wedding.”
