The First Minister insisted she wants the vote to be in the early part of the next Scottish parliamentary term, which would follow the Holyrood election on May 6. However, the SNP leader’s comments came in the same week she was forced to defend her handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Figures released at the start of the week showed there were 50.5 deaths per million in Scotland during the week to 15 November, compared to 40.6 in England. Scottish Conservative Party leader Douglas Ross has criticised the SNP leader for “stoking up her agenda” while the pandemic shows no signs of being over just yet.

Sturgeon wants to have another divisive independence referendum.
“She’s completely out of touch with the Scottish people and is only interested in stoking up her grievance agenda.
“The election next year is a chance to rebuild our communities with the Scottish Conservatives or go back to the divisions of the past under the SNP.
“Every vote for the Scottish Conservatives is a vote to respect that once in a generation result.”
Back in 2014, Scottish people voted against independence with a majority of 55 percent.
But Ms Sturgeon does not appear to be deterred as senior figures claimed she will demand Prime Minister Boris Johnson grant MSPs the power to call another referendum if she wins the election.
This is despite Mr Johnson saying he will refuse to do so.

He tweeted: “They won’t get a look in if Nicola Sturgeon gets her way and demands indyref2 next year.
“The SNP’s obsession is crippling our country.”
Scotland’s death rate has been above England’s in the last four weeks, Scotland’s overall death rate is lower than England and Wales.
UK government statistics show that Scotland’s Covid death rate is 94 per 100,000, compared to England’s at 101.5 and Wales at 102.4. Northern Ireland’s death rate is 63.4 per 100,000.
