Kensi Blye star Daniela Ruah confirmed she’ll be stepping out of character in the current season of NCIS: Los Angeles to direct an episode of the California spin-off. Her episode is set to air next year on CBS once the series has returned from the holiday break.
Daniela Ruah has signed on as director for the 11th episode of NCIS: Los Angeles season 12.
Her new role in the series will mark her directorial debut after starring as the NCIS Special Field Agent since the first season kicked off the spin-off in 2009.
The news comes after all three NCIS series made their long-awaited return last month after an extended hiatus following the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ruah reprised her role as Kensi this season as her storylines with partner and husband Marty Deeks (played by Eric Christian Olsen) took a turn for the domestic in later seasons.
CBS confirmed the news on Friday 4 with a tweet: “We’re proud to announce that the unstoppable @DanielaRuah will be directing an episode of #NCISLA this season!”
The network also voiced their support for equality behind the scenes with the hashtag #FemaleFilmmakerFriday.
NCIS star Daniel Ruah was thrilled with the news and also gave some more insight into her new role on her personal Instagram page.
Posting a picture of herself with one of the show’s cameras, she wrote: “In 2014, when this picture was taken, little did I know that my passion for acting would leak into the world of directing too.”
Plot details haven’t been released, though the team have still been dealing with the fallout of their skirmish with Petty Officer Argento (Juan Riedinger) in season 12.
Meanwhile, Kensi and Deeks have been taking their relationship to some exciting places after finally tying the knot at the end of season 10.
Kensi’s realization that she wants to have children has caused a stir amongst the fanbase, who have been looking out for signs of pregnancy ever since the couple started trying at the end of season 11.
In the latest episode, Kensi and Deeks seemed to be preparing for family life as they discussed buying their first house together.
NCIS: LA returns tonight with a double bill, so viewers will have twice the opportunity to look out for what’s to come in the ongoing season.
Following next week’s episode, If the Fates Allow, the series is taking a two week break before the team return on Sunday, January 3.
Kensi and Deeks’ will hopefully reach the final verdict on their house-buying debate this week, before Kensi faces a demon from her past in the second half of tonight’s two-parter.
NCIS season 12 continues Sundays on CBS.
