Many royal staff have had a quieter summer this year after the coronavirus outbreak hit and a nation-wide lockdown came into effect. Most of the Royal Family isolated in their separate bubbles, while keeping up many of their duties. Kate Middleton and Prince William, for example, have partaken in hundreds of Zoom calls and video meetings, as well as launching Kate’s new project, Hold Still.

And while Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no longer inner-circle members of The Firm, the pair have nonetheless been working towards launching their new charity Archewell, as well as securing lucrative contracts with Netflix.

Meghan and Harry left the UK for the US earlier this year after announcing they planned to give up their royal titles to lead a private life.

The pair have since returned on only one occasion, in March, to mark a Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey with the Queen.

Their absence has been sorely felt, but many claim staff and family members were beginning to find Meghan “difficult” to work with, according to TheTalko website.

The publication said staff working at Buckingham Palace preferred Kate to Meghan.

They explained: “By all accounts, it seems workers and family members in Buckingham Palace much prefer Kate Middleton.

“Not only that, it seems that Britons prefer the Duchess as well.

“So, it’s needless to say this doesn’t sit well with Meghan Markle.

JUST IN: Queen plans ‘to get around Covid rules’ to see William and Kate

Mr Quinn told the Daily Star Meghan argued with Kate’s staff after they turned down her royal requests, revealing: “It was almost as if in that one encounter, it encapsulated for Meghan the problem that she had, that she’s a Princess and she’s number two.”

Further, he claimed the Duchess had asked the staff member to do something, but they told her: “I’m really sorry I can’t do that because I work for Kate.”

Mr Quinn said Meghan “really felt she had been put in her place” and said that she had “assumed that when you ask staff to do something, they are going to do it”.

The Daily Express’s royal correspondent Richard Palmer has previously talked of how Meghan was regarded as “difficult” and “demanding” by members of the family and staff.

However, he has been quick to point out there has been “no big fallout” between Meghan and Kate.

Many other royal experts have been more explosive in their rhetoric.

Victoria Mather, a royal commentator, caused a furore after she condemned Meghan on live TV.

It came during an interview with MSNBC, in which Ms Mather said: “I think what has really upset the British public is that Meghan Markle, who many people consider is only five clicks up from trailer trash, has actually tried to disrespect the Queen.”

Many came to the defence of Meghan after this episode.

Reacting to the interview on the talk show The View, Joy Behar said: “Meghan Markle is still a Duchess – that was really shocking, what an idiot, a stupid woman.”

Meanwhile, Sunny Hostin said: “It was just loathsome and shocking and despicable when I first saw that I thought to myself ‘my goodness, that is why they are leaving the UK’.

“You’ve heard all of these things about how Duchess Meghan had been treated and maybe perhaps it was overblown – well no, it wasn’t overblown, because that is how she was treated.

“The Duchess Kate isn’t from royalty, but I don’t recall anyone ever referring to her as that, so what is this really about?”

Meghan and Harry currently live in Los Angeles, and have started to carve out a private life for their family.

In September the pair signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to make TV series, films and children’s shows thought to be worth more than $100m (£74m).

It is unclear when or if Meghan and Harry will return to the UK.
