Prince William asked his younger brother Harry a telling question after meeting Meghan Markle for the first time, a new book has claimed.
Sources say Kate and William were desperate to meet Meghan, and they were finally introduced to Harry’s new love at Kensington Palace.
Royals at War, a new book by investigative journalists Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett claims that William asked if Harry “is she the right one?” after the meeting, and it didn’t go down well, reports Mail Online.
They also say that insiders have said that Kate was worried about the relationship, and also took Harry to one side to share her thoughts.
They wrote: “She gently reminded him that he was dating someone with a completely different life, past, and career and it would take time, care and attention for them to integrate.”
However, Kate’s concerns didn’t stem from any worries about Meghan as a person – simply the speed at which things were moving.
The couple started dating in 2016 and married two years later in May 2018, welcoming their son Archie in 2019.
However, Howard and Tillett claim this was completely untrue and say that the royals really liked Meghan and were glad to see Harry happy.
They believe the rift could have been avoided if “Harry had been able to empathise and take his brother’s concerns in the spirit they were intended”.
The book quotes a source saying: “It’s my opinion that Harry feels he couldn’t protect his mother, so he’s going all out to protect his wife. He is so sensitive he often sees criticism or negativity where there isn’t any.”
Meghan and Harry spoke about their first meeting as the Fab Four during their engagement interview.
Harry was asked what it was like introducing Meghan to his dad Prince Charles and William.
He replied: “What was it like? It was exciting I mean I’ve – you know I’d been seeing her for a period of time when I – literally didn’t tell anybody at all.
“And then William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine.
“So, you know, being our neighbors we managed to get that in a couple of – well quite a few times now and Catherine has been absolutely…”
Meghan then cut in, adding: “She’s been wonderful.”
Harry then continued: “…amazing, as has William as well, you know, fantastic support.
“And then my – my father as well, we had a couple of – no more than that…
“A handful of teas and meetings and all sorts of gatherings over at his place as well.
“So, no, the family together have been absolutely, you know, a solid support and my grandparents as well have been – have been wonderful throughout this whole process and they’ve known for quite some time.
“So how they – how they haven’t told anybody is – is again a miracle in itself.
“But now the whole family have come together and have been a huge amount of support.”
