HUNDREDS of workers at a Morrisons depot have reportedly been ordered to self-isolate after a coronavirus outbreak.
Mass testing at the distribution centre in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, has identified a large number of Covid cases.
Local NHS chiefs are working to identify all close contacts.
It is understood around 200 staff at the site are now in quarantine, though exact case and isolation numbers have not been confirmed.
XPO Logistics, who run the site, say they are working alongside the authorities for track and trace purposes.
And the firm insist their safety measures at the Bellshill depot are rigorous.
Dr Femi Oshin, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health medicine, said: “NHS Lanarkshire’s Test and Protect team has carried out contact tracing after individuals at XPO Logistics in Bellshill tested positive for Covid-19. They are currently self-isolating at home.
“NHS Lanarkshire is working closely with North Lanarkshire Council and the company with regards to the cases and has now contacted all appropriate close contacts.
“These individuals are being told to self-isolate and book a test.
“To respect and maintain confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.”
An XPO Logistics spokesperson said: “Protecting our employees is our number one priority.
“We’re working closely with the local authorities, including NHS Lanarkshire for the track and trace while adhering to all local and Public Health Scotland guidance to ensure the appropriate health and safety measures are in place.”
