Emmerdale aired worrying scenes for Vinny and Mandy Dingle, in the fallout to Paul Ashdale’s kidnap.
The character was bundled into a van and abducted this week, before threats were made to his partner Mandy.
She was told to leave the police out of it, before they demanded money in a swap for Paul’s survival.
On Tuesday, Vinny learned the truth as Mandy desperately tried to rake the thousands of pounds together needed to get her partner back.
She was sent an image of him bound and gagged, as his kidnappers demanded the money in less than a day’s time or Paul would suffer the consequences.
But some viewers were suspicious that there was more going on, and that perhaps Vinny’s girlfriend Liv Flaherty could be a target.
Vinny asked her for cash but she revealed she didn’t have the money needed, before she was able to raise £700.
Taking to Twitter, fans questioned if Paul was actually after Liv’s money after learning she was a property owner.
While Liv told Mandy that all the money she had was tied up in property, could Paul have been banking on Liv providing the thousands of pounds he believed her to have access to?
Viewers certainly think so, with many taking to Twitter to suggest Paul could have staged the entire thing to pay off his debts.
One viewer wrote: “This is what Paul wanted. Paul wanted Liv’s money and this is why he has engineered the kidnapping anyway. Paul is so slimy.”
Another tweeted: “Are they scamming Liv?”
A third added: “I reckon Paul has staged his own kidnapping and hoping Liv and Vinnie will pay his debts for him!”
Meanwhile another wrote: “I think Paul has set that kidnapping up himself so he will get Liv to pay the money.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
