When Kate Middleton met the handsome Prince William in her university halls her life changed forever.
Due to a privacy agreement with the media, Wills was able to enjoy an almost normal university life – especially once the excitement of having a royal classmate calmed down.
This meant the early days of his relationship with Kate were mostly out of the spotlight – but as soon as they both donned their graduation caps it was a very different story.
Kate had a lot to learn, and she needed to do it quickly as she took on the role of royal girlfriend.
Even though she wouldn’t put that sapphire engagement ring on her finger for years, the world was still fascinated by the woman who could one day be our Queen.
And it was Camilla who reached out to offer her future step-daughter-in-law a few words of advice, and they’re very telling.
According to royal expert and biography Robert Lacey, Prince Charles’s husband had a little tip for Kate – but she struggled to follow it.
In his new book, Battle of Brothers, Lacey writes: “Camilla had confided to Kate the secret of hanging on to a busy prince: fit your timetable – well, basically your whole life – around his.”
However, Lacey claims that this wasn’t really possible for Kate as William’s diary was “un-fit-rounable”.
After uni he packed his bags and moved to Sandhurst where he joined the Royal Military Academy.
He also had lots of royal duties, including his first solo royal tour when he flew to New Zealand aged just 23.

While Wills impressed crowds and enjoyed 10 days of busy engagements – all Kate could do was follow the news coverage at home.
But Lacey claims that rather than just waiting by the phone, Kate decided to embark on what he describes as a “camouflage” career path of her own.
He writes: “While Kate’s medium-to-long-term objective was quite simple – to lead William in handcuffs to the altar – for the time being, she had to devise her own independent career path as camouflage.
“This was a matter of both personal and public tactics.
“In neither respect would it help Ms Middleton to appear the slightest bit needy – and of course there was the ultimate unthinkable possibility that she might end up getting dumped!”
