Heritage watchdogs have described the proposed location of a new multi million pound health centre in Weston-super-Mare as ‘bizarre’ – and have asked health chiefs to re-think their plans.
Weston Civic Society has raised serious concerns about plans by Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to build a new health centre on land at Weston Rugby Club at Sunnyside Road.
The CCG says it has looked at 16 different sites across Weston, with the land at the rugby club being announced as the ‘preferred option.’
The CCG plans to work with developer Studio Hive to build the new health centre which will provide GP services for around 15,000 people.
A number of town centre surgeries have moved out of the town centre in recent years, meaning patients have to travel to see a doctor.
